After ending the second week of summer "vacation," the 2009 edition of the Prosper Eagles are in full swing in preparation for the upcoming season. With Speed Camp, voluntary evening workouts, 7-on-7, lineman challenge, and some players even choosing to register for workouts at the Michael Johnson Training Center, players have found numerous opportunities to stay in shape over the summer. Last weekend in Fort Worth, five of our linemen qualified a team for the State Lineman Challenge competition. This was their first official foray into the world of "lineman challenge," which seeks to present opportunities to linemen that for so long have been available to skill players through summer 7-on-7 leagues and tournaments. The linemen will participate in their second "challenge" this weekend at the Michael Johnson Training Center in McKinney. The Prosper 7-on-7 Tournament Team failed to qualify for state last week by a single point in double overtime in the semi-final round of bracket play at the Midwester State State Qualifying Tournament. After a slow start in pool play, the Eagles rallied to win their pool and advance into the championship bracket, however were unable to get into the championship game of the tournament. The top two teams at each tournament qualify to advance to the State Tournament, held at Texas A&M University in College Station. The Eagles will again be in action on Saturday at Arlington Bowie. Information can be found at www.prosper-isd.net. We had 6 teams participate in the Celina 7-on-7 league Monday evening. Even though spread a little thin, this proves to be a great opportunity for all of our players, especially our younger players, to get plenty of playing time in 7-on-7 this summer. Our tournament team went to Sanger on Thursday to participate in their league, and came away with two wins... one over Callisburg, and the Eagles' second victory over Aubrey this year. Next week, we will be split on Thursday, as one group will travel to Sanger, and two groups will compete in Frisco at Wakeland High School. There is lots of excitement as the Eagles get ready to defend their Class AAA Division I State Title... come out and support our kids in their efforts this summer! GO EAGLES!!! Coach Scott |
